Baptism

Introduction

Becoming baptized is a natural step in the life of a new believer. It is an outward testimony of what has happened in the believer's life. Through baptism, we identify with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection.

Romans 6:3b-4 states, "When we became Christians and were baptized to become one with Christ Jesus, we died with Him. For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives." The act of immersion in water symbolizes being buried with Christ. The act of coming out of the water represents Christ being resurrected.

Requirements for Baptism

There are two basic requirements before a person can be baptized. First, the person being baptized must believe that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior. Second, the person must understand what baptism represents.

If you believe in Christ as your Lord and Savior and understand what it means to be baptized, then there is no reason you should not participate in baptism. Baptism is simply about obeying God by making a public proclamation of your belief in Christ alone for salvation.
