Introduction
Prayer is the Signe Qua Non of the Christian life - you can’t live spiritually without it. It’s commanded. It’s necessary. And ultimately, it’s fellowship with God. How are you going to do anything unless you’re in fellowship with the Lord?
“He that abideth in me and I in Him, the same bringeth forth much fruit, for without me you can do nothing.” And the word in Greek for nothing is...nothing! A real profound word study! Prayer is something you have to do; you have to live in a prayerful mentality.
Goals for Intercessory Prayer at Life Center
Starting with a core team, we will meet on a regular basis to think and work through every aspect of prayer. Then, working out from the core, is to have a team of two to five people praying for every ministry that the church provides. Every pastor or director of a ministry needs to be supported and have the ability to share personal or ministry-related needs for prayer on a consistent basis.
The Challenge of Prayer
Prayer is kind of the forbidden art - it’s talked about all the time, but not really practiced. It takes a lot of effort to tune into the idea that when you pray, you are inviting and bringing in the very real presence of God.
Why does God seem to show up in some places and not others? One thing’s for sure: absolutely no major move of God happened without a group of people who really committed themselves to pray. Intercession is the practice that shakes history.
God works through Prayer
In the summer of 1998, Tacoma was having a really high season of crime - all kinds. Five pastors got together and set up a team of intercessors to pray on a consistent basis. Whatever was going on was broken - it was the first July, August, and September on record in Tacoma where not a single violent death from crime occured.
That’s not coincidence - that’s God working through prayer.
