Stewardship

Introduction

Stewardship is the discipline of seeking out God-given needs and matching those needs appropriately with God-given resources. The stewardship team is a conduit that brings those together. When one begins to think in those terms, stewardship takes on totally different aspects.

When most people think of stewardship, they think of tithing. While tithing is an important part, it represents a grain of sand on the vast beach of stewardship. Stewardship is about recognizing the gifts that God has given us, and then using them to fulfill His purposes on earth.

Different Types of Stewardship

Consider the stewardship of influence - when meeting someone new, you create an impression that is either positive or negative. There is also the stewardship of family - a father or mother is responsible for the care and use of their family's time. There is also the stewardship of self - Scripture states that each person's body is a temple. There is the stewardship of resources - God has given individuals the talent to create resources and use them for the sake of His glory.

The Key to responsible Stewardship

The key to responsible stewardship is connecting God-given resources with appropriate God-given needs. There's a saying that goes, "You can't take it with you." That is true, it's impossible - but you can take what God has given and send it on before you.

When a responsible steward invests in bricks and mortar that are used as tools to bring people to Christ, there is eternal value. Storing up treasure in heaven is done through our actions on earth. And giving your time and your resources to a God-given vision is what stewardship is all about.
